This week, we’re focusing on the Means of Grace. That is, the physical things of this world that God uses to share his gracious love with us.

The author talks about how he tried lots of different religions and philosophies, trying to figure out how he could reach God.

Finally it dawned on him that he had things backward. He didn’t have to reach God; God had come to reach him.

First God sent us his Word in the physical person of Jesus Christ. As the Bible tells us, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:11).

And now God continues to send his Word to us in the physical words and pages of the Bible, as well as in what we call the visible Word of the sacraments.

The author points out that the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion are the visible means by which God sends Christ and his Holy Spirit to meet us and share his grace, love, and forgiveness with us.
