The 40 days of Lent correspond to the 40 days Christ spent in the wilderness being tempted by Satan. They are also symbolic of the 40 years the Israelites spent in the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land.
The Ash Wednesday service reminds us of our mortality as we confess our sins and we experience forgiveness through the gift of Christ’s body and blood given and shed for us.
The “imposition of ashes” is a central part of the service. In Scripture, ashes serve both as a symbol of mortality and as a sign of mourning and repentance.
This year, we will provide you with ashes to perform the imposition in your car or at home for yourself and your family.
Holy Communion will be celebrated at both worship services.
