In Christ, We Reach Out
The people of St. Mark’s have a heart for service. We’re deeply committed to serving the needs of our local community while making new disciples.
We believe that Christ calls us to serve the current needs in our community, without compromising our faith or values. In this way, we communicate the good news of Jesus Christ to our society in ways it can understand.
Here is how you can begin reaching out and sharing Christ with us.
With your heart
If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. John 15:5
You can only share what you already have. A pitcher can only fill a glass if it is full. Christ is the vine, we are the branches. If you want to bear fruit that will last, you must be and remain in Christ (see John 15:1-17).
Developing your own deep and abiding faith in Christ is the first, and most important, requirement in order to share him with others.
With your prayers
I urge that prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people 1 Timothy 2:1
Pray for yourself. Ask God to enable you love others the way he does. Ask him to help you see other people the way he sees them.
Pray for others. Pray for others the way you pray for yourself. Ask God to do for them exactly what you ask him to do for you. Ask God to heal them, provide for them, care for their loved ones, and so on. Pray God would give them all the blessings you have already asked him for your own life.
With your ears
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak. Jame 1:19
More than anything, people want to be known, loved, trusted and empowered. You can give them all that with your ears.
If you want others to hear your news about Jesus, you must first be willing to hear what they have to say about themselves and their life; their joys, sorrows, hopes, and worries. Listen to their story. Let them know you are genuinely interested.
With your actions
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18
The old adage is true: actions speak louder than words.
Be a living, breathing example of Christ’s love. Showing Christ’s love to someone is far more effective than just telling them about it.
If you want others to know about Jesus’ love, grace, forgiveness, patience, compassion, humility, service, and generosity – show it to them.
With your words
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15
You don’t need to be a great theologian or bible scholar to tell people about Jesus. You can tell others about him in simple, meaningful ways that will have a tremendous impact.
When a non-Christian friend is sick or struggling with an issue, tell them you are praying for them.
If someone asks you about your faith or why you go to church, tell them what Jesus means to you and how he has impacted your life.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
