YOU HAVE MY DEEPEST THANKS
Hello! I am Kin Joram, a form four student at Hekima Girls’ Secondary School. I come from an unfortunate family that also lost a dad a while ago, leaving my siblings and I in the hands of my mother.
Today, I am sharing the impacts I have obtained and equally express my gratitude to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green Ohio – My Sponsor – as well as my beloved school Hekima whose unmatched support made a difference in my life.
Admittedly, English is a global language, opening an array of opportunity for those who speak it. Having known that my school runs various programs to facilitate English speaking to its students, I got courage to learn and master it.
When I joined Hekima in 2020, I was young but eager to learn, the school introduced me to a diary writing program that enabled me to gather and accumulate a variety of English vocabulary words in order to expand my writing and speaking skills. I learned to write my daily routine and unforgettable events of a particular day. That went on like that for my first academic year.
In subsequent grades, I was introduced and slowly immersed in journal writing where I began writing lengthy creative compositions enhancing not only my writing but also my speaking skills. My compositions were noticeable and commendable because of my ability to express myself and unique word choice. A good example is when I titled my essay “OUR CLAN’S HOUSE” to mean “AFRICA”. The essay went viral and had every one in school talking about it.
To be honest, I can now write quality compositions, and read and articulate English words properly and confidently because of the strong and good foundation I received. God bless St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. God bless Hekima for giving me the chance to learn English and speak it. The path to English language acquisition hasn’t been very easy bearing in mind that it is my third language. It all took efforts, determination and directives from teachers to reach this far.
Where I am now, I thank God who brought St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in my life; it has given me an opportunity to study at Hekima Girls’, purposely that I can fulfill my professional and life dreams. We believe that education is the key to life and is life itself. As a girl child – who traditionally had no opportunity to education – I see my bright path towards fulfilling my dreams and basically, I am quite prepared to soar like an eagle since education is my wings.
I wind up with lots of appreciation to you St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Ohio and to my beloved school Hekima. The wonderful work that is done on me is a testimony of God’s plans on His people. I shall become an ambassador of your hard work to support girls of my kind.
The Friday morning talk where I prepared and delivered speeches on stipulated topics, diary and journal writing; all these platforms, profoundly promoted my academic growth as a student as well as a person.
I thank you very much St. Mark’s Lutheran Church – my sponsor, pray for you and wish the best in your endeavor. I surely believe, “Where there is unity there is always victory”. May your good work continue in the girls of my kind so they can fulfil their academic and potential.
Sincerely,
Kin Joram – Scholarship recipient.
